On July 25th, the acclaimed series 'Monday Nights, New Voices,' produced by composer Scott Alan, will continue it's celebration of new talent at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre.
Hosted by New Voice Alumni, Aléna Watters, who currently stars as Tina in the Tony Nominated musical Sister Act, the concert will celebrate the talents of Cari Leigh Chrisostomou, Sevan Greene, Chloe Jean, Louise Stewart and Hernando Umana. Watters performed in the New Voices concert series on April 10th, 2006.
The 7pm concert will feature up and coming composer Joey Contreras who will accompany the performers on selections from his songbook. Paul Staroba musically directs.
Joey Contreras is a new musical theatre songwriter in the New York scene. He received a BFA in musical theatre from University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA and is currently in New York University's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Within his first few years in NY, Joey's music and arrangements have been featured at Joe's Pub, Le Poisson Rouge, the Laurie Beechman Theater, The Duplex and the 2010 Broadway in South Africa Gala. Internationally, performances of his music have stretched as far as Australia, Germany, South Korea and the UK. In addition, he was awarded the 2010 ASCAP Foundation Max Dreyfus Scholarship Award. He remains at work on This Thing Called Love, a song cycle originally workshopped with Philadelphia Music Theatre Works, as well as the coming of age musical, Wallflower. His recently released debut album, Love Me, Love Me Not: The Music of Joey Contreras features exciting guest performances by Broadway talent, and is available on iTunes and CDBaby.com.
